The exterior of Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. A lovely tour ensued with the chance to gaze up close at one of the best examples of Gothic architecture around. It was an enjoyable day-trip, save for the fact that you needed to pay for a permit to take pictures inside, and that the tour began with about ten minutes of the founder’s sexual history (I did not include that in my original write-up). He suffered from syphilis, and the interior was exceptionally dark because the light bothered his eyes as a side-effect of the disease. Though necessary, the guide dwelled on it for what seemed like forever.
